Drawing upon his resourcefulness, the POW devised a clever mnemonic strategy. He decided to use the tune of the popular children's song "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" to help him memorize the names. The repetitive and rhythmic nature of the song made it an ideal tool for encoding and recalling the information.


Each name was set to the tune, and by the time of his release, the POW had successfully committed the names of more than 200 fellow prisoners to memory. It was a remarkable feat of mental resilience and ingenuity, achieved under the most trying circumstances.

Upon his release and return to the United States, the POW was debriefed by military intelligence. When he began reciting the names of the other prisoners, officials were astonished.
